114. Keywordtool.io – In many ways similar to Ubersuggest, this keyword tool has the extra value of adding alphabet letters at the front of your selected keyword as well, so it searches for a + coffee, b + coffee, etc. More than that, it combines your keyword with 0-10 numbers as well, so your list is nicely completed. It is ideal for getting into long tail keywords and expanding your keyword groups.
Google’s free service helps take the guesswork out of the game, allowing you to test your site’s content: from simple A/B testing of two different pages to comparing a whole combination of elements on any given page. Note that in order to run some of the more complicated multivariate testing, you will need adequate traffic and time to make the results actionable, just as you do with Analytics.
95. Complete On Site Optimization Tutorial – The author of this post, Sean Si, claims that this is a complete, yet simplified tutorial for on site optimization. As impossible as that may seem, the author does manage to structure the information neatly, so that for each factor listed, you get a link leading to more in depth explanations.
I like your post so much. I want to try them all. But, I want to know your insight about the “link building will be dead soon”. I’m doing a blog post about this and need some insights from SEO influencers like you. Hope to hear from you soon.
Ignite Visibility has cleaned up many Google penalties from other companies. It is not a fun process, but something we plenty of experience in. In this article, we cover the Google Penguin update. This is a link penalty that websites get when they build too much anchor text to their website.
15. Build links intelligently. Begin with foundational links like trusted directories. (Yahoo and DMOZ are often cited as examples, but don’t waste time worrying about DMOZ submission. Submit it and forget it.) Seek links from authority sites in your industry. If local search matters to you (more on that coming up), seek links from trusted sites in your geographic area — the Chamber of Commerce, local business directories, etc. Analyze the inbound links to your competitors to find links you can acquire, too. Create great content on a consistent basis and use social media to build awareness and links. (A blog is great for this; see below.)
Want to get backlinks from The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal? You can hire a pricey PR firm…or you can use HARO. HARO is a “dating service” that connects journalists with sources. If you hook a journalist up with a nice quote or stat, they’ll reward you up with a mention or link. Takes a bit of grinding to get a single mention, but the links you get can be solid gold.
Don’t forget about your blog when designing a mobile-friendly site either; you’re unlikely to see an ROI on your content marketing if people aren’t finding and consuming your content – something increasingly few people will do if your mobile UX sucks.
Including keywords in headlines is becoming less important, Shepard says. “Google has gotten better about interpreting meaning. It used to be that if you wanted to rank for ‘best restaurants,’ you had to say ‘best restaurants’ three or four times. It’s still helpful to mention ‘best restaurants,’ but the semantic meaning is becoming much more important. Now you can just talk about great dining experiences, and the search engines will pick up on it.”
Although Google said they would be “restricting” access to Autocomplete, KeywordTool.io seems to have found a way around it. I just tested the tool and it brought back a bunch of excellent keyword suggestions just like it always does.
The first step to getting your site on Google is to be sure that Google can find it. The best way to do that is to submit a sitemap. A sitemap is a file on your site that tells search engines about new or changed pages on your site. Learn more about how to build and submit a sitemap12.
The Structured Data Testing or the SDTT allows you have an X-ray vision of your website. This resource from Google will enable you to examine the on-page schema code and test schema markups in a secure and efficient way. Getting the on-schema code for a website can give you a significant amount of data or information on the page.
Although google says we shouldn’t be “link building”, it still stands that links are one of the greatest Ranking Factors today. Granted, methods of link building in the past have been incredibly manipulative, however, in my eyes, the likes of writing content on other sites is only beneficial to all involved. Provided the content is strong enough, one gets some lovely new content for their site, the other gets to raise awareness of their site or become a bit more of an authority on a subject matter.
GTMetrix is my software of choice when it comes to measuring the page speed and performance of your website. This helps me to improve loading speed and monitor my website. It is easy to use and extremely user-friendly, and also thorough in its execution.
Measure which strategies provide the most benefit, refine and continue. One really good example of a barnacle SEO strategy I implemented for Pure SEO was getting an invite to spend a week with Sir Richard Branson on his private island, this got organic links from every major newspaper in New Zealand and most of the major marketing magazines.
When I’ve interviewed SEOs in the past, this is always a tool that comes up in discussion. And, while it may not strictly be an SEO tool, it still helps you make informed decisions about the future of your marketing.
118. Screaming Frog – From time to time, it’s a good idea to perform a crawl test of your website and check whether search engines have properly indexed your website. Perhaps you would like certain parts of your website to remain non-indexed (see uses for robots.txt and how to use a robots.txt file), in which case you have to get technical.
Screaming Frog is a desktop software which only crawls website and compiles a list of SEO related data, but also provides complete statistics, which can be used by the SEO experts to troubleshoot the basic SEO issues and improve your Google rankings.
Link juice is an informal term used by many Search Engine Optimizers which refers to the amount of “link currency” a website possesses. As Google roams around the World Wide Web, it looks at how websites link to each other in order to figure out which ones are best. Let’s say that Site A and Site B are both about “Child Identity Theft Protection” and would both like to rank for this keyword. Google takes a look at the links to determine which of these two sites is best. At a very basic level, assume that Site A receives an inbound link that Site B doesn’t. Naturally, Site A will look better to Google and will ultimately outrank Site B. But let’s say that Site A and B both receive an inbound link from Site C. In this scenario, both sites look the same to Google – so in order to determine which site will rank better, Google looks for other ranking criteria.

Grammarly – Grammarly is a simple grammar and spelling plugin for Chrome if you edit your website text using your browser. It is a simple way to ensure your web copy is not so bad as to put off users. You also do not want to misspell important keywords or synonyms.
Remove pop-ups on mobile and interstitials from mobile. Ever since Google announced in January 2017 they were going to implement a penalty on sites still using intrusive pop-ups and interstitials, webmasters have been opting for alternatives to pop-ups.
On-page SEO involves both creative and technical expertise. As a marketer, you need to create fantastic content for your website that your audience will love. And you want to ensure that your website helps Google (and human users) find and share that content easily. – Justin Deaville, managing director at Receptional.
One worthy consideration is the differences between each SEO tool. Use two different tools for the same thing and you’ll likely get two different responses, sometimes wildly so. This is because each utilizes Google’s specifications in its own way, meaning accuracy is a bit of a moving target. As Michael King wrote in Search Engine Land, “these are all just different tools storing the same data in different ways.”
Now, I am using a similar tool called “SERPed.net”. It is a lot better than Moz in terms of features and usability. The product has a package of 44+ tools to cover all the SEO related requirement of users ( though I am yet to use all the tools available).
When conducting keyword research, incorporate queries that are more relevant to voice search. Now that Google voice search is available in 30 new languages, it is available to more than 1 billion people worldwide. Voice search will continue to become more important with Google Answers and the mobile-first index.
We’re often asked, what makes you different than other digital marketing agencies? Our answer is simple: HigherVisibility’s focus is to drive customer acquisitions through laser-focused targeting combined with an optimal post-click experience. If the experience your prospects have after they click isn’t relevant, isn’t optimized, isn’t converting, then all the effort and investment was wasted. We understand that success in search doesn’t end with the click.
First you can check your analytics and especially the time users spent on a page. A reader will stay longer on the page if the content is good and second the number of social media shares (Facebook likes, tweets etc.).
SEM Industry is a section of Search Engine Land that focuses not on search marketing advice but rather the search marketing industry (which even has an industry group, SEMPO). Within our SEM Industry section are these subsections:
Many marketers like to compare organic SEO to public relations or “earned media” because there is no guarantee of success, making the ROI on earned media (including SEO) a challenge to predict and sometimes a challenge to measure. In both SEO and PR, marketers have the option of hiring internal staff, bringing in consultants, or using an outside agency. The same options apply for paid search marketing.
To protect their reputation and keep spam websites away, Google started adding more strict rules to their ranking algorithm and they were able to differentiate between natural and artificially created links.
As a freemium model SEMrush allows you limited access to the data, however fiddling with the filters will allow you to uncover a little more data. In short, it allows you to track any domain or Keywords from any geographical location, discovering local competitions and lets you target different devices too.
