Learn to build links naturally. If you buy links, Google will find out and punish you. You should endeavor to create awesome content that earns links naturally. Link farming (sowing many links at the same time or within a short period) will only land you in trouble.
If you’re looking for more internal links to add to your post but aren’t sure which would be relevant, you can click “Explore some internal links you might use in this post” for a list of recommendations.
The unique content you create should be valuable, not just fluff or filler content meant to trick search engine spiders. Wait…what spiders? Google and other search engines use special type of software (scripts) known as crawlers or spiders to find and index your content.
In addition to including links to relevant and authoritative sites in your content, Google looks at the language used in the hyperlink itself. By including internal links with text that is relevant to the page that you are linking to, and including your keywords, you are indicating what the content being linked is about.
It is tough to get some clients to understand. Many really don’t care how they get to the top of the results, they just know they want to be there. What I try to explain is that it is more than just the keyword position. Things like click-through, brand recognition and reputation are also important. Pointing out the same-ness of the “cityname seo” results can help too. Ask if they are more likely to take seriously on one of the identical “CityName SEO Company | SEO CityName” results, or the one with a recognizable brand. Most people do understand that they want to stand out at least a little bit.
If you do SEO work for local clients (like plumbers and electricians), this tool can help you find local keywords that potential customers search for. For example, if you tell the tool that your client is a plumber in Boston, it will hand you 40-ish keywords that customers might use in Google.
Website owners recognized the value of a high ranking and visibility in search engine results, creating an opportunity for both white hat and black hat SEO practitioners. According to industry analyst Danny Sullivan, the phrase “search engine optimization” probably came into use in 1997. Sullivan credits Bruce Clay as one of the first people to popularize the term. On May 2, 2007, Jason Gambert attempted to trademark the term SEO by convincing the Trademark Office in Arizona that SEO is a “process” involving manipulation of keywords and not a “marketing service.”

Some marketers believe that there are “tricks” that will improve the relevancy of sites within the search engines that are spider- (crawler-) based. Not only do some of these tricks not work; many of them can result in negative relevance penalties as the engines take measures to punish search marketers seeking to manipulate ranking and relevance. That said, there are still compelling reasons to put legitimate efforts behind organic SEO optimization, particularly efforts in site design, content formatting, content clarity optimization, and server platform adjustments.

Each tool is really excellent for SEO at different stages of the campaign. Screaming Frog is my go-to for crawling sites. Having an exportable workbook of the meta data is step one for any technical analysis and I believe campaigns fundamentally begin there.
Thank You so much for such valuable information. This was my first time when i visited your site and now i have bookmarked this website to hear more from you. Keep on posting brilliant techniques to us 🙂
The first relates to internal link structure. I’ve made the mistake you say you’ve seen so often. I have a primary keyword and have used that keyword in the main navigation, linked to a page optimized for that keyword. But I’ve also got a bunch of contextual links in posts pointing to that page, usually with the keyword in the anchor text. I now understand that those internal links aren’t helping much, at least from an SEO perspective. Am I better to remove that keyword and direct link from the menu and simply link the page from multiple posts and pages within the site. Or will I get better results leaving it in the main menu and changing the contextual links in the posts to point to a related page with a different keyword?
Although this is not officially part of the Google ranking algorithm, it is something that can improve the presentation of your pages in the search results and this means higher click through rates and more organic traffic.
You should be conscious of placing appropriate keywords throughout every aspect of your site: your titles, content, URLs, and image names. Think about your keywords as search terms — how would someone looking for information on this topic search for it?
Link Research Tools would have to be 3rd because it has such a powerful suite of link intelligence tools. For link cleanup and opportunities, there is probably not a better resource out there for dealing with the massive amount of data that can go into selecting where to pursue links.
I normally drop about 5 to 10 keyword ideas for a new amazon site that I’m looking to build out into Keyword S****** and it just spews out thousands of keyword ideas. I’ll then download the list after a few minutes and drop it into Keyword Planner to find out volumes and other metrics.”
I’ll always start off a campaign looking at technical and on-page improvements that can be made, Screaming Frog has my back here. It will crawl an entire website giving me tons of useful information such was bad redirects, duplicate content and page titles. Don’t neglect technical and on-page work!
Xenu – Scrapebox used to be my #3 but Xenu is quickly taking the place of it. I still use SB but not as much as I did in the past. I use Xenu because it allows me to take a full analysis of a websites broken links. It scrapes the entire website and spits out a great report in HTML format, which can be saved for later analysis. I use Xenu on websites that are 6 months of age and older, and run it whenever I notice a lot of broken links or do at least once per year.
Just go to Settings > Permalinks and select Post Name or Month and Name. Do this long before adding content to your blog to avoid broken links. If you had no idea, broken links are bad business for SEO, and if you’d like to learn more, Elegant Themes published a great post on why you should never use the default permalinks setting.
Chrome Developer Tools – there is a huge amount of functionality available via chrome developer tools including the ability to check server response codes, view and browse a website via a mobile simulator and easily inspect elements within the chrome browser.
