Thanks Brian for sharing these points. I was desperately looking for ways to increase search traffic. Although, it is good right now, but I need more. All I was getting was basic SEO techniques which I have pretty much applied but was looking for extensive ones. These are perfect for my requirement. Thanks a bunch!
15. Create a “Link to Us” page. I have found that if you offer logos and keyword-rich link text to visitors, they will link to you. Here’s an example I created for linking to Cloud Hosting at Rackspace. If you do email marketing, email the page to your subscribers and past customers and ask them to link to you.
A good rule to go by is to select one keyword phrase per page then optimize that page to that keyword phrase. Keywords should be relevant to the overall content of your page. Furthermore, choose specific keywords that are more likely to give you a better search results ranking than a broad term would. For example, consider how many sites use the keyword phrase of “punk music.” The competition for ranking using that keyword is likely to be tough. If you choose a more specific keyword like “Green Day concert,” the competition is a lot easier.
We just mentioned your content needs to be unique, valuable and relevant. What does this mean? First off, your content should be unique because search engines, more so Google, do not entertain plagiarism – or duplicate content. Your content should bring something fresh to the table – it should be unique if you want to rank well.
Setting the value of the “rel” attribute of a link to “nofollow” will tell Google that certain links on your site shouldn’t be followed or pass your page’s reputation to the pages linked to. Nofollowing a link means adding rel=”nofollow” inside of the link’s anchor tag, as shown here:
Ontolo is in my toolkit for link building. It is designed to help you find prospective links based on topics, link types and phases of your choosing. It gets prospects from search results, filters, analyzes and places the results in a customized database.
Not only is Screaming Frog’s Spider Tool a great tool for finding issues with your on-page content, it is great for getting a list of technical issues as well! It can help identify links with 404 errors or long redirect chains, find URLs that have been blocked by your robots.txt file, as well as help you generate an XML sitemap. The best part is that you can export a list of these and hand them over to a developer and let them deal with it! Sorry to all developers who are reading this.
We often see posts on how to get blog topic ideas or ideas on creating visuals but nobody ever talked about new link building ideas. The ways you showed here some are absolutely unheard to me. You know what I think you should write a post on how to get your own link building ideas…where to start…how to proceed…how do I know it’s full proof…it surely comes with lots of experiments…but the point is starting…….I know sounds weird but I know you will come up with something 🙂
It’s also important to ensure that your site is properly optimized for the various search engines. That’s called “onsite SEO” and typically requires the aid of a tool that crawls all over your site looking for problems that the search engine bots might encounter.

SimilarWeb is very useful for spying my competitor’s sources of traffic. I find it to be very accurate and it’s great that I can see how much of my competitor’s traffic is coming from search engines, and what are their best referrals.
I got you covered in this guide! Here is my list of the 100+ best SEO tools that you should be using in 2017. I have done the heavy lifting for you by compiling a list of recommended, tried and trusted SEO software reviews. Rest assured, you can rely on them for their outstanding results as I use them daily for my client’s at SEO Expert Brad.
The terms SEO experts often start with are page authority (PA) and domain authority (DA). DA, a concept in fact coined by Moz, is a 100-point scale that predicts how well a website will rank on search engines. PA is the modern umbrella term for what started as Google’s original PageRank algorithm, developed by co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Google still uses PageRank internally but has gradually stopped supporting the increasingly irrelevant metric, which it now rarely updates. PA is the custom metric each SEO vendor now calculates independently to gauge and rate (again, on a scale of 100) the link structure and authoritative strength of an individual page on any given domain. There is SeO industry debate as to the validity of PA and DA, and how influence the PageRank algorithm still holds in Google results (more on that in a bit), but outside of Google’s own analytics, they’re the most widely accepted metrics out there.
Ahrefs was made for finding links in the first turn, and this is the thing it is really good at. It had then been developed to offer other features, still backlink search is still its go-to functionality. It has a nicer interface and more convenient UX than Majestic. However when you need not just a big list of links, but a good understanding of where they can take you, SEO SpyGlass (the tool from SEO PowerSuite) is the winner. For a tiny fraction of Ahrefs’ price, SEO SpyGlass will find a site’s backlinks and then offer core deep link analysis and link management features you won’t find anywhere else.
These keyword suggestions are a treasure of information. Google autocomplete suggest keywords based on how often a keyword is used for the search. This means that the top most results are the most frequently searched terms on Google for that particular keyword.
First thing I thought was… If there are certain SEO tips we must apply on 2017, why don’t all experts coincide in the answers? Is this SEO world still debatable in 2017? still relative as hell? Having said that, I think ‘Sean SI’ and ‘Dan Shure’ were the only ones who actually stepped out of the clichés and actually tried to teach us something on how to do things in 2017. Theory is valid, but practice and how to do things are useful. Sean Si and Dan Shure are very generous to have explained what they do to optimize your own research and analysis. These are the kind of things I’m looking for, as a user, when searching for best SEO practices in 2017. Because after reading the whole article, one asks himself? So what’s the conclusion ? It seems Everything is still important then: Social Networks, ON page optimization, guest-blogging, backlinks, internal linking, User experience, mobile friendliness, etc, etc, so what to do in 2017? Teh same as always, attack everything you can, don’t focus on anything in particular !
In fact, I have been told many times that I am a local legend in the industry. This is because for at least 10 years I held the number one position on Google for “Dallas SEO” and “SEO Dallas” and no one could knock me down, no matter how hard they tried. And I dare say no one took the title from me either, I just let it go from lack of time, attention, and ambition. I stopped caring about it.

1) KNIME – It’s an open source piece of software used mostly outside of marketing, but is excellent for data piping, prototyping custom built software, advanced analysis, and reporting. As far as tools are concerned, it’s a jack of all trades. I wrote about how it can be used for http://searchwilderness.com/semantic-keyword-research/”>semantic keyword research.
If I had to pick #4, it would be keyword research tools. Unfortunately, I haven’t found one that truly shows user vocabularies and mental models. So I use a variety of keyword resources. Honestly? Usability tests and studies tend to give me the best user keywords. Keyword research tools tend to be a supplemental source… not a primary source…of information.
Many marketers like to compare organic SEO to public relations or “earned media” because there is no guarantee of success, making the ROI on earned media (including SEO) a challenge to predict and sometimes a challenge to measure. In both SEO and PR, marketers have the option of hiring internal staff, bringing in consultants, or using an outside agency. The same options apply for paid search marketing.

127. AWR Studyr – Shamelessly self-promotional, but objectively worthy of being on this list, the AWRStudyr plugin for Chrome created by our devs at Advanced Web Ranking, should be part of your free toolkit whether you’re an SEO, or a web developer. The plugin allows you to verify web pages for keywords, see if it’s mobile-friendly, check the meta description, and get a bit techier with pagespeed insights, HTML5 errors, social shares, mixed content, and more. It’s definitely useful if you want a quick glance over your website or your competitors.
A decent keyword research tool. While Keyword Spy is a bit dated (the copy still says “track your rankings in MSN”), it still works OK. The tool works just like SEMRush: enter a domain name into the tool and it will show you a list of keywords that the site ranks for. However, SEMRush is far and away the superior tool.
Most people use Bitly for the process of URL shortening. But the real power of this tool or platform is when you use it for analytic capabilities. I mostly use the bitly for its analytic function than for its URL shortening. Don’t get me wrong; the URL shortening is a valuable bonus.
Link Research Tools is an internet marketing toolset that provides link protection and optimizes your website. The salient features include Link Juice Thief, Missing Links, Strongest Sub Pages, Contact Finder, Link Juice Recovery and SERP Research. The Link Juice Thief allows you to check all links gained by your competitors. The Missing Links area compares the backlink of your competitors with your website and reports the links that are missing. Using the Strongest Sub Pages, you can search for the most potent page or subpage available in the domain and get a link from it.
9. Do keyword research at the start of the project. If you’re on a tight budget, use the free versions of Keyword Discovery or WordTracker, both of which also have more powerful paid versions. Ignore the numbers these tools show; what’s important is the relative volume of one keyword to another. Another good free tool is Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool, which doesn’t show exact numbers.
Some items deserve to live on. Certain products may have informational value for existing customers or others wanting to research it. Leave these pages intact. Previous buyers can get information, help and service through these pages.
2. Majestic SEO – If Screaming Frog is our go-to on page tool then Majestic is our go to off page tool. There are several link indexes out there but Majestic is built by UK folks (just down the road from us in Birmingham as it goes) and I tend to find the best overall results. You will need a pro account to see the historic index to really get the most from the tool however for getting a good idea of relative authority and the all important link profile Majestic gets my vote.
