130. Keyword Discovery – This is another nifty little tool that allows you to find search terms for your site. What I find nice about it is that it somehow manages to give you, as you’ll find described on the site, both generic and long-tail keyword, that are somehow gathered from some 200 search engines from all over the world. In its free version, the Keyword Discovery tools offers hundreds of search terms, and search trends for the last 12 months. If you get the paid version, you’ll get up to 10,000 search terms per query, and a complete 12-month trend history.
Cool Feature: “View Sharers” shows you who shared a piece of content on Twitter, which is outreach solid gold bullion. “BuzzSumo Alerts” tells you whenever a keyword or phrase (like a competitor’s brand name) gets mentioned around the web.
4. How Bing Search Works – Information from Bing’s official blog on how their search engine works. You can also check out the SEO guidelines for Bing from the official source, or this Princeton blog post explaining how Bing functions as compared to Google – nifty information indeed!
This is why we, Best Dallas SEO, are honored that she has chosen to pass the torch on to us. Below you will hear from her, and see that she is giving us her full recommendation, which we do not take lightly. We did not buy her out. She handed what she built over to us freely in an effort to help not only us, but her past clients continue to succeed.
Until relatively recently, search engine optimization used to fall under the umbrella term “search engine marketing,” but both have become so complex that SEM and SEO now exist as two separate (but closely related) entities.
The American democratic voting system can be used as a simple metaphor to explain how search engines rank websites. In America, one vote from a wealthy businessman is just as potent as a vote from a Starbucks employee. All votes are equal. The way Google and other major search engines work is similar, but with one major difference. One vote from Wikipedia.org does not equal a vote from Eggleston.com. Why? Wikipedia.org has more authority, also known as “link juice”.
I think serious businesses of all sizes would do better following this method than any search-based due diligence (since marketers by nature are excellent at “marketing” themselves even if terrible at SEO). I also know it’s better than “recommended” lists which are usually driven by industry politics and traded referrals, not merit.
Hi Brian, Just wanted to say thanks for another great read. The options are all very helpful and some slightly easier to do than others but as always its trial and error starting with the ones that suit you most. Thanks again.
Wordtracker scout is a very cool (free) Chrome extension that finds keywords within a piece of content. You simply need to head over to an article, click the “W” button and the tool will scan the page for keyword ideas.
A pretty nifty content promotion tool. Enter a few keywords and Outreachr will scour the web for websites that cover those topics. Comes packed with tons of sorting features (like Domain Authority and Citation Flow) so that you can focus on reaching out to ballers.
Unbounce.com is worth noting—I used the service to generate landing pages quickly when I need to. I’ve used Unbounce landing pages with a lot of the New gTLD research and testing that I’ve done in the past few years. I can easily create a landing page, duplicate it, and get analytics and conversion data.
When you are running out of keywords even on the Google Keyword Planner and need some newer ideas, Ubersuggest is a perfect alternative. This software helps you plan your target keywords and increase your website’s rankings.
What I like best with them is their color coded selection of easy to rank keywords. Keywords are completely algorythmically analysed and color coded as RED (difficult), YELLOW (intermediate) and GREEN (Easy) to rank for.

The user sitemap should provide links to all (or to the most important pages of your site). It can also group posts by author, date, category etc. Its purpose is to help the user find information on your site easier and quicker. My user sitemap looks like this:
SEOWorkers provides a lot of information, and some of it is different from other SEO and reporting tools. However, it can be information overload. For the experienced SEO, the discussion in each section is superfluous. For new SEOs who are still learning the tricks of the trade, it could be useful.
Organic search is undoubtedly a massive source of traffic and lead generation. As long as Google exist, targeted users will certainly continue to find their way to billions of search queries every day. The number of internet users is increasing rapidly every day which is why it would be wise on the part of every business to spend on SEO in order to be in the top search results and reach out a targeted audience. If your customers can’t find you in the top search results, it certainly means you are losing your business to your competitors. Unless you are an incredibly popular brand, it’s always wise to spend on top ranking keywords as it can definitely get you more traffic.
I love SEMRush and use it daily for everything from keyword research, to keyword tracking, to competitor research. There are some standalone tools that possibly do individual tasks better, but having it all in one place is insanely convenient.

58. Technical SEO Course – If you want to be able to handle your SEO top to bottom, then you’re going to have to get technical. Without a corresponding background, that might be difficult to handle at first. But you can start with this course taught by the founder of Distilled, Will Critchlow. This is quality and actionable information that you’ll be able to start applying right away. And if you’re the visual learner type, you may find it easier to accumulate and digest information with this course that spit into bite-sized lessons, each with its own assessment tests.
Let’s assume you have had your website up for about 3 months. You have been posting regularly about twice a week, with keyword density of around 3% and unique titles and meta data. You are off to great start, and soon you will start reaping the rewards. Once you begin receiving traffic from search engines, it is good practice to get used to analyzing your traffic data using Google Analytics and Site Catalyst from Omniture.
6. Build a sitemap page. Building a sitemap helps search engines discover every page in your website. The best sitemaps list the pages in your site along with brief keyword-rich descriptions of the page. If you have too many pages on your site, create as many sitemaps as you need and make sure they’re linked together.
Even if you do eventually decide to put some of these tasks in your developers’ hands, you need to know how to direct them on SEO best practices when structuring a blog. Fortunately, it’s easy to implement once you know how it all works.
The key concepts in SEO (credit to Search Engine Land Features Editor Vanessa Fox for the inspiration on this) are straightforward: relevance, discoverability, and crawlability. Relevance means keeping to a topic and helping the search engine understand what your site is about (ideally it’s about one thing in particular). Discoverability means telling the world about your site. The technical details and environment may have changed, but search marketing is still just marketing. Get your website out there, communicate with the online world and your users. And finally, crawlability means making the site accessible. Search engines regularly send out automated programs called web crawlers, and it’s these crawlers that will visit your site and try to understand your content. Help the engine crawlers find every page on your site and make sure they can understand what they’re seeing.
There are a few places you can start for recommendations. Ask other business owners you trust and work with. Ask vendors you discovered through a Google search – after all, you found them, didn’t you? Check SEO groups and online forums like Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization, High Rankings and Search Engine Guide.
So when I’m in a meeting, whether it’s by chance or not (usually by chance as I hate meetings) and the conversation moves to websites & SEO, I just whip this baby out and let it crawl their site while we talk.
Link Removal can also be utilised even if you haven’t been hit with a penalty. You may have bought some links in the past, been on the wrong end of a negative SEO attack or even have your content posted on multiple sites and these links can still impact you. Removing these can do absolutely no harm and will keep you in the good books with google.
