And, if your keywords are highly competitive, you may not ever be able to rank in the top 10 search results, but you will move up in the rankings and you should find traffic to your site on the rise.

Many people know which search results are paid versus natural and often give precedence to natural search options. On the other hand, if your website shows up on later pages of the search results, you might have better luck using PPC to get seen. Because PPC costs money, you might consider using it for items that you sell, as opposed to promoting a free offer or your blog.
Search engine marketing (SEM) is a form of Internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs) primarily through paid advertising.[1] SEM may incorporate search engine optimization (SEO), which adjusts or rewrites website content and site architecture to achieve a higher ranking in search engine results pages to enhance pay per click (PPC) listings.[2]
It’s important to remember that SEO, while capable of providing a valuable source of traffic, is still only one way to attract potential clients and customers to your site. Think of SEO as part of your marketing strategy instead of your whole marketing strategy. Don’t lose sight of the forest staring at a handful of trees.
Then, see how many clicks you get for some of these high-impression terms. If your getting lots of impressions for a certain keyword, and not many clicks, that means that you have A LOT of potential to get traffic for that term.
I start off with some keyword research, deriving several alternatives to my primary keyword. But instead of writing content first and adding keywords later, I do both at the same time. How? I commit my primary keyword and a few alternatives to memory, and then write away. Provided you’ve researched your keywords as well as your content, the former will fall right into the latter. The keywords will fit right in. I don’t think about the keywords but when I’m done writing, the post is SEO ready. Of course, this is my own personal technique and might not work in your case. And I have perfected the technique over time, so feel free to devise your own technique – just make sure your keywords appear naturally in your content.

Choosing the right keywords, for example, takes a thorough understanding of a business’ goals and objectives—it’s easy to spend a lot of energy aiming ads at the wrong people. That isn’t to say a good campaign will be optimized from day one, either. Running a PPC campaign takes a lot of time, refining keywords, groupings, tweaking ad copy, revising the landing page, and monitoring results.
Keeping track of your links is just as important as building them. Use Monitor Backlinks to know when any of your backlinks status changes. With our SEO tool, you can determine if a webmaster unfollows your backlinks or removes them completely.
To maximize rankings, we update all your website’s internal linking and on-site optimization. Conventional adverts only attract customers while they are running. Our best SEO company attracts customers over the long term, making it a long term investment.
It is also common for some websites to have short descriptions– under 100 characters– that did not really cause much of a problem when the general maximum was 156 characters. Now, since many brands have significantly more, the websites that have the excessively short descriptions look even more out of place and incomplete.
In the early days of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), it was enough to use your target keyword a bunch of times on a page. Unfortunately, that led to shady SEO companies who would follow a practice called “keyword stuffing,” which was essentially the severe overuse of keywords in on page text. In modern SEO, this is considered a “black hat” practice. Instead, your SEO company should strategically use your target keywords in title tags, meta descriptions, page headers, and contextually throughout the on page text in order to make sure that the search engines know what the page is about.
4. Make navigation easy. You can do this by building clear text links to all parts of your site. Search engines can’t follow image links or clever animated links like Flash; they like their navigation plain and simple—and so do many users.
In addition to including links to relevant and authoritative sites in your content, Google looks at the language used in the hyperlink itself. By including internal links with text that relevant to the page that you are linking to, and including your keywords, you are indicating what the content being linked is about.
Many marketers like to compare organic SEO to public relations or “earned media” because there is no guarantee of success, making the ROI on earned media (including SEO) a challenge to predict and sometimes a challenge to measure. In both SEO and PR, marketers have the option of hiring internal staff, bringing in consultants, or using an outside agency. The same options apply for paid search marketing.

Let’s say you’re looking for bloggers to outreach to for backlinks and content sharing. Where do lots of bloggers spend their time? Blog comments where they try to connect with their favourite authors.
Remember that users enter search words into search engines based on their interest. The matching keywords and phrases you choose for your campaigns help determine if your ad will display when users search online. But be aware, other advertisers may also be using the same keywords. That creates competition with your ad campaign. What can you do to win? One solution is keyword bidding.
Be sure to include your keyword within the first 65 characters of your headline, which is just about where Google cuts it off on search engine results pages (SERPs). Technically, Google measures by pixel width, not character count, and it recently increased the pixel width for organic search results from approximately 500 pixels to approximately 600 pixels, which translates into around 65 characters.

Finally Screaming Frog’s Spider is probably the most under priced tool in the SEO space. While more expensive crawlers have been developed over the past few years Screaming Frog SEO Spider is still the first tool that I renew without even thinking about it. So much so, that we’ve resorted to many clients to manually checking them / and or developing our own tools to ensure the results we get are what the customer is seeing too. The problem with this type of rankings check is how much time it consumes in the studio. The problem with a lot of automatic website rank checkers, of course, is that they could well be software packages that violate Google Webmaster guidelines for instance.
SEO is about optimizing your website to get better rankings in the search results while SEM goes beyond SEO. It involves other methods that can get you more search engine visitors like PPC advertising.
We believe the marketing and advertising industry will continue to see a surge in businesses turning towards online marketing as opposed to traditional marketing and advertising efforts. In addition, with the expansion of mobile and the mobile web, we believe there to be a shift towards mobile marketing and advertising platforms. Social media will also continue to play a large role in expansion.

Planning your content is very important as it falls under the rule “content is king.” You want to make sure that your company’s website is updating at least twice a day. A quick way to do this is putting out blogs and articles 3-4 times a day. This is the sweet spot for Google. You can do this easily with programs like WordPress and just schedule the program to release the information.

Great post. It’s crazy that some firms benefit just because they can afford to be on some list. There’s no way a smaller firm could afford the fees that are associated. This obviously doesn’t mean that they don’t do good work. Reading client testimonials and case studies is a much better indicator of trust.
Hey Brian, love your site + content. Really awesome stuff! I have a question about dead link building on Wikipedia. I actually got a “user talk” message from someone moderating a Wikipedia page I replaced a dead link on. They claimed that “Wikipedia uses nofollow tags” so “additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings.” Any thoughts here?
This software is among the best choices because it’s still named by some SEO experts as a good tool. However, we see that, unlike a few years ago, Raven tools have become considerably less useful than other toolkits in our review. Raven is pretty much just a dashboard and reporting tool where you view your Google Analytics, Google AdWords and Google Webmaster Tools and a few third-party paid tools (Majestic, Moz).

It’s also highly likely that Google factors in the chances of a link being clicked when deciding how much weight it should pass. In fact, they’ve held a patent called “Reasonable Surfer” since 2010 (filed in 2004) which details how they would do just that.
Page and Brin founded Google in 1998.[22] Google attracted a loyal following among the growing number of Internet users, who liked its simple design.[23] Off-page factors (such as PageRank and hyperlink analysis) were considered as well as on-page factors (such as keyword frequency, meta tags, headings, links and site structure) to enable Google to avoid the kind of manipulation seen in search engines that only considered on-page factors for their rankings. Although PageRank was more difficult to game, webmasters had already developed link building tools and schemes to influence the Inktomi search engine, and these methods proved similarly applicable to gaming PageRank. Many sites focused on exchanging, buying, and selling links, often on a massive scale. Some of these schemes, or link farms, involved the creation of thousands of sites for the sole purpose of link spamming.[24]
As a result, in-depth keyword research is the key to running a successful search engine marketing campaign. You’ll want to run your campaigns targeting the exact right terms…or you’ll miss your target audience.

For example, let’s say the keyword difficulty of a particular term is in the 80s and 90s in the top five spots on a particular search results page. Then, in positions 6-9, the difficulty scores drop down into the 50s and 60s. Using that difficulty score, a business can begin targeting that range of spots and running competitive analysis on the pages to see who your website could knock out of their spot.

One of the most important elements of the optimized site is appropriate keyword density. Your keyword density should be kept under 20 percent, which will prevent your site from being targeted as spam.

In March 2006, KinderStart filed a lawsuit against Google over search engine rankings. KinderStart’s website was removed from Google’s index prior to the lawsuit and the amount of traffic to the site dropped by 70%. On March 16, 2007 the United States District Court for the Northern District of California (San Jose Division) dismissed KinderStart’s complaint without leave to amend, and partially granted Google’s motion for Rule 11 sanctions against KinderStart’s attorney, requiring him to pay part of Google’s legal expenses.[65][66]

By 2004, search engines had incorporated a wide range of undisclosed factors in their ranking algorithms to reduce the impact of link manipulation. In June 2007, The New York Times’ Saul Hansell stated Google ranks sites using more than 200 different signals.[25] The leading search engines, Google, Bing, and Yahoo, do not disclose the algorithms they use to rank pages. Some SEO practitioners have studied different approaches to search engine optimization, and have shared their personal opinions.[26] Patents related to search engines can provide information to better understand search engines.[27] In 2005, Google began personalizing search results for each user. Depending on their history of previous searches, Google crafted results for logged in users.[28]
When it comes to content, Google saves the first page for companies that provide their visitors with quality experiences. As a result, the content of a site is crucial when it comes to ranking in 2018. In fact, the importance of quality content has increased dramatically over time. Gone are the days of generating tons of low-quality, content-farm-ish copy. Today, content has to be excellent, add value and engage visitors. Even the best new SEO practices won’t work in 2018 if you publish poor-quality content.

Hey Brian. Even though our own website ranks constantly (last 3 years now) for SEO Companies at Number 1 of Google (obviously when searching from London UK or nearby that is), I sttill keep reading other people’s posts and sending my own out when I find a gold nugget. However, within your clearly written article I have noticed multiple golden nuggets, and was very impressed by your ‘thinking out the box’ approach, and the choices you made for this article. Anytime you want a job as head of R&D for SEO at KD Web, you just let me know 😉
Search engine marketing is the practice of marketing a business using paid advertisements that appear on search engine results pages (or SERPs). Advertisers bid on keywords that users of services such as Google and Bing might enter when looking for certain products or services, which gives the advertiser the opportunity for their ads to appear alongside results for those search queries.
Sir, can google AdWord’s free keyword research tool be used completely over Semrush or other paid keyword research tool to make a WordPress website completely seo freindly? I asked this question because at present I could’nt afford the price of semrush or other paid premium services.

69. What is Link Building? – Although it doesn’t offer any strategies for link building, this article by John Ball does a good job of explaining why we need it, how it used to be done, and where it stands within today’s SEO. The article is less than one year old, so everything in it is still relevant.
I definitely learned tons of new things from your post. This post is old, but I didn’t get the chance to read all of it earlier. I’m totally amazed that these things actually exist in the SEO field. What I liked most is Dead Links scenario on wikipedia, Flippa thing, Reddit keyword research, and at last, the facebook ad keyword research. Its like facebook is actually being trolled for providing us keywords thinking they are promoting ads.
A decent blogger outreach tool. Just enter a keyword and Inky Bee shows you bloggers in that industry. Inky Bee allows you to sort by Domain Authority/Page Authority. That way you focus on the big shots in your industry.
Search engine advertising (SEA) is an efficient and affordable online marketing strategy that helps your company website enjoy greater visibility by advertising on Google using varying methods. We differentiate between Google Ads, which are paid advertising, and the organic search results, whose ranking is determined only by the search algorithm. When you advertise on Google, text is displayed above, next to, or under the search results if it suits the search query, and is identified through the “ad” label. Aside from this, there is little difference between them and the snippets (text extracts from websites) in the middle. Ads on google are free initially; the clicks that the advert generates are billed. The price per click depends on your budget and how accurately your website is suited to the search query. As Google is by far the most used search engine in the US, search engine advertisement here is among the most profitable. AdWords is a program that Google uses to sell its adverts worldwide. With our tool you can invest in Google-AdWords campaigns in just a few clicks. The 1&1 experts can give you advice on finding the Google advertising plan that’s right for your budget and takes into account the right keywords. With the right strategy for search engine adverts, you can then directly and efficiently target potential clients.
You don’t have to start a blog, but start publishing your own content on a scheduled basis. I am not advocating turning your business into a publishing company by posting content every day. Scheduling weekly, bi-weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly updates is my recommendation — consistency is key. Also bear in mind that content does not necessarily need to be text — for example, an architectural firm could publish professionally taken photographs of its projects or Realtors could publish weekly video bulletins. Publishing content that is tailored to the content consumption habits of your target audience is the goal.

In a similar vein, include social share icons for all your individual blog posts, making it easy for people to share it with the click of a button. Most people won’t share your article, even if they like it, unless it’s incredibly easy to do so. This is a simple step—it takes mere moments to set up—so there’s no excuse not to have it for your site. Here at AudienceBloom, we use Social Warfare, a plugin for WordPress that I really dig and highly recommend.
For example I may be performing research for an article when I notice a site with excellent statistics. I’ll then dig deeper into the site to see if they may be interested in a relationship, receiving guest content, or other ideas.

Let’s face cheap china shopping SEO can become very confusing. The good news is it doesn’t have to be. The basics of SEO are actually quite easy to understand and if you give yourself a good foundation in learning search engine optimization you’ll be able to sort fact from fiction much more easily and you’ll have the tools to delve into more advanced SEO concepts.

A simple rule to follow: keep your SEO Page Titles and Meta Descriptions at the length Google suggests. While a title can be up to 150 characters, Google recommends using only 70 (the amount of text that appears in the search engine results). Meta Descriptions can actually be as large as you want – but you should avoid that. Keep them below 160 characters, with your most critical information and keywords within that character count. Again, this matters because Google limits the displayed characters in its search engine results page (SERP) to 160 characters. You see an example of this in the following image:
The Link Manager makes it easy for link builders to keep track of their efforts. Raven monitors for link changes, takes screenshots of active links and notifies you when a link changes. Once you have established your first article with keywords in it, you want to further optimize your article through various methods. One of these methods is the use of Meta tags. Meta tags are embedded in the actual HTML code of your web page used to provide structure metadata about a web page. This code is placed in the section of your web page. Meta tags server many purposes. In regards to SEO, Meta tags are used to communicate with search engines what the page is about. There are two widely used Meta tags – keywords and description. These are relatively self-explanatory. In the Meta keyword tag, you want to include the keywords you are targeting for that specific page. And for the Meta description tag, you want to provide the description of the page.Meta tags are a great way of communicating directly with search engines. Of course there are rules that come with this. Generally, you do not want to exceed 100 characters or 45 words in the keyword tag – whichever is first. For the description tag, you do not want to exceed 150 characters. A common SEO mistake is too “stuff” keywords in this Meta tag, hoping to rank for several different keywords. It simply does not work like that. If you do this you run a high risk of being marked as a spam website. Keep it short and sweet, and try to use the single keyword also used in the title.

In some contexts, the term SEM is used exclusively to mean pay per click advertising,[2] particularly in the commercial advertising and marketing communities which have a vested interest in this narrow definition. Such usage excludes the wider search marketing community that is engaged in other forms of SEM such as search engine optimization and search retargeting.

Scribe bridges the gap between old school on-page SEO and new school content marketing. The tool scores your content based on how friendly it is for people AND Google. I also dig the fact that you can do keyword research from within the WordPress editor.
In the real world, its not so easy. For example, I have 2 niches where I’m trying to use your technique. By keywords, its Software for Moving and Free Moving Quotes. I have 2 websites that related to each of them, emoversoftware.com (emover-software.com as initial, they linked together) and RealMoving.com ( for latter keyword). So, to begin with, none of those niches has Wikipedia articles, so your first suggestion will not work. But, in general suggestions, you are advising to get backlinks (of authoritative sites of course). But check this out – my site emover-software.com has only 4(!) backlinks (https://openlinkprofiler.org/r/emover-software.com#.VXTaOs9VhBc) and, however, listed as #1 (or #2) by my keyword. (moving software, software for moving, software for moving company). RealMoving.com has more than 600 backlinks and is way back in ranks ( 170 and up) by my keyword. Even though those sites have different competition, its still makes no sense! It doesn’t seem like Google even cares about your backlinks at all! I also checked one of my competitor’s backlinks, its more than 12000, however, his rank by keyword related to moving quotes even worse than mine!.
You basically had me hooked after you mentioned the Wikipedia dead link technique. The idea of finding dead links and reaching out to the websites that’ve linked there is actually one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a long time. I’ve bookmarked this page for future reference. Thanks.
I see now that I’ve been relying on tools too much without full comprehension of my actions. I’ve been trying tools like Moz’s and SerpStat for competitors analysis and KW Planner for keyword research.
SEMRush because they allow me to spy on competitors effectively. I can see what keywords a website (especially a competitor) is ranking for and who is linking to them (which also helps me identify influencers). Furthermore, I can use the tool to conduct keyword research. Overall, all of the features of this tool can also help me with content strategy.
GeoRanker is an advanced local SEO (Google Maps) rank tracking tool. As you know, if you track local keywords (like “Boston tacos”), you can’t use most rank tracking tools. You need to see what people in Boston see. Well GeoRanker does exactly that. Choose your keywords and locations and get a report back that shows you your Google organic and Google local results.
It’s great for checking not just basic things like broken backlinks within your http://markets.financialcontent.com/wral/news/read/35871325 and outbound links to external sites, but more complex tasks such as finding issues with your websites overall architecture.
This free tool is offered to Google’s advertisers for free and anyone can use it. It’s main purpose is to show advertisers the keywords they can bid on for their advertising campaigns. It also helps advertisers choose right keywords by showing them an estimate of search volume, number of results, and difficulty level.
Whichever route you pursue, once you’ve created the 10x content, reach out to get influencers to share their views. In doing so, not only will they often help promote the article, if you target the right influencers, sometimes you can get a natural link from them when they blog about your topic.
RegisterCompass gives me a list of sites to analyze further. I then run those sites on LRT and OSE to get a better idea of their links and content. I will also look at the site on archive.org to make sure it hasn’t been burnt at any point.
Great insight into the world of SEO here. I really think you have worked hard to put these tips in the correct order. So many people think, ‘ok let’s create a website’, without really thinking about who their audience is and what they really want to say. It is almost like a step by step guide. Brilliant.
We think our “How to choose the best SEO company for you?” article may be really useful in helping you make the right decision. You are about to embark on a significant journey and a major investment in your time as well as your money. Take a moment to review this handy SEO Q&A format and talk to at least three of the best Search Engine Optimization companies on that list before making your decision.
Domain Hunter Plus is a duplicate link checker and can crawl hundreds of links on a page. This SEO site tool lets an individual know if a domain exists by returning all of the outbound links. For each of the error codes it receives, Domain Hunter Plus displays the data procured from SEOmoz by the number of broken links to that particular page along with the domain. All one needs to do is open the Open Site Explorer report in a new tab right from the DHP interface. If you are interested in purchasing a domain or perhaps in multiple domains, you can select the ones you want and move directly to GoDaddy to
As the number of sites on the Web increased in the mid-to-late 1990s, search engines started appearing to help people find information quickly. Search engines developed business models to finance their services, such as pay per click programs offered by Open Text[7] in 1996 and then Goto.com[8] in 1998. Goto.com later changed its name[9] to Overture in 2001, was purchased by Yahoo! in 2003, and now offers paid search opportunities for advertisers through Yahoo! Search Marketing. Google also began to offer advertisements on search results pages in 2000 through the Google AdWords program. By 2007, pay-per-click programs proved to be primary moneymakers[10] for search engines. In a market dominated by Google, in 2009 Yahoo! and Microsoft announced the intention to forge an alliance. The Yahoo! & Microsoft Search Alliance eventually received approval from regulators in the US and Europe in February 2010.[11]
But still it seems like there is something obvious missing, and most of the seo experts i try to hire will ask for at least a thousand of dollars (which fries my brain). The website is up for over 3 months and i’m getting like 1 visitor from search engines each day( GOD!). Is it normal for a new website to draw such low traffic from search engines? do i have to do off-page seo too or am i really missing something?
If Google finds that similar or same text in two different URLs, then it can negatively affect your web ranking or outright ban your site. It is important to make sure that you do not have any copied content in them.

Because I spend so much of my time executing link building campaigns, I rely on a variety of paid tools (e.g. Ahrefs, Majestic, BuzzStream etc.) but by far the most critical (and free) tool for link building is Google Chrome.

In addition to helping you find keywords you should be bidding on, thorough keyword research can also help you identify negative keywords – search terms that you should exclude from your campaigns. Negative keywords aren’t terms with negative connotations, but rather irrelevant terms that are highly unlikely to result in conversions. For example, if you sell ice cream, you might want to exclude the keyword “ice cream recipes”, as users searching for ice cream recipes are unlikely to be in the market for your product.
3. SEMrush is the last tool I will mention in this post because I use it to take my SEO research to the next level. Once you know who the main competitors are in an industry, I can then figure out what keywords they are ranking for with SEMRush. You can of course drill down even further and figure out who else is ranking in the top of Google for a given keyword phrase and much more. But the primary reason I use it is to steal from the competition.
If you want to know how it works, you can sign up for a trial version of $1 for ten days and experience the functions. The most significant advantage of this tool is that as a user, you do not have to be an expert in SEO. The user interface is simple and thus easy to understand and use.
You can also use it to compare your rank with that of your competitor which can help you make better strategies and plans for the future. The RankTrackr uses a method that is proven to be more accurate than the other rank comparing tools in the market. You can also the filter keyword option to filter your information flow. When it comes to search engine optimization, the goal is to rank the highest, and this allows me to keep an eye on my rank and make steps to improve it.
Google’s RankBrain is an algorithm that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to rank results based on feedback from searcher intent and user experience. Diving deep to learn what makes RankBrain tick, here are 15 actionable tips to improve your SEO rankings.
The ideal domain will include your business name and perhaps a keyword or two that are relevant to your business. For example, if you are a contractor, you might want to purchase a domain name like www.yournameconstruction.com. Want to know more? A key benefit is the ability to schedule re-crawls / re-fresh data which tracks progress and issue resolution. It is especially useful for clarifying and targeting issues for development teams, and outputs ready-made reports for clients.
YoRocket optimizes your title and description tags to boost your organic CTR. I originally developed YoRocket for internal use at Backlinko. And it worked so well that I decided to release it to the public.
Further to this, since 2014 mobile search has continued on its stratospheric trajectory and with the Google Maps app on smartphones everywhere, it is a significant channel through which visibility on search engines can be increased.
SEO for Small Business is now more important than ever if you want to stay relevant and not slowly lose your customers to your competitors – if that hasn’t happend already. Think about it. Where do you go to research a company, service or product? How and where did you find what you are looking for? If I had to bet, I would say it was a search engine. Well, you are not alone. Over 90% of consumers go online before buying a new service or product.
While having a privately hosted domain won’t affect your search rankings, having shared hosting may cause your site to get indexed less. Search engines index based on IP address and when they are multiple IP addresses, search engines can get too many signals.
Firstly, your choice should utilize clean and valid HTML. If the structure of your theme is all over the place, you are going to have problems not only with your WordPress SEO, but also with your design. Look for themes that utilize the canonical URL meta tag. A canonical URL meta what? This is just a fancy term for a certain type of meta tag that stores the top URL of your page. If it’s your homepage, the canonical URL meta tag will store your domain name. If it’s a post, the tag will store the URL of the post.
To build out and run campaigns, I rely heavily on Hubspot and its COS. WIth Hubspot, you can easily build out landing pages that convert, add awesome content to your blog, enhance on-page SEO and optimize social campaign planning.
Keyword Research – Starting with competitive keyword research, SEMrush.com (or Alexa.com if you can afford it) is an amazing tool for finding out who your competitors are, what successful keywords they rank for, and soooooo much more!
Secondly, we have white and black hat SEO. The former is an SEO strategy that adheres to SEO rules established by Google and other search engines. On the other hand, blackhat SEO involves gaming search engines, which will only land you in hot soup. You should endeavor to build a white hat SEO strategy, and never once think about manipulating search engines using black hat techniques. In simpler terms, don’t try other dirty tricks that are not contained in, say, this resourceful SEO Guidebook by Google.
132. Moz Q&A Forum – The Moz Community is very active, and here you might get the chance to interact with big names from the SEO industry. For starters, you can enjoy the free access to reading discussions and finding out what SEOs talk about, what preoccupies them, and what new trends shift around. If you want to participate in the conversation and leave a comment, you need to register with a paid Pro account, something perhaps best suited later on.
Google’s algorithm changes can throw you for a loop when you’re not expecting it. To keep up to date with Google and ensure you still return in search results, perform an in-depth link quality analysis. Discover the most effective backlinks and techniques using your own profile or the profile of a competitor.
By 2004, search engines had incorporated a wide range of undisclosed factors in their ranking algorithms to reduce the impact of link manipulation. In June 2007, The New York Times’ Saul Hansell stated Google ranks sites using more than 200 different signals.[25] The leading search http://www.rfdtv.com/story/37622080/news Google, Bing, and Yahoo, do not disclose the algorithms they use to rank pages.
Glad I’m not alone with my love/hate relationship with the Google Keyword Planner. It’s definitely an awesome tool and SEOs couldn’t live without. But as you said, it’s really not designed to help you find completely new keywords.
It’s worth bearing in mind that Google have significantly changed the way that they list websites with the introduction of a new feature called ‘Google Places’. ‘Google Places’ are business listings that appear before the rest of the search results. This change means that not only do companies need to employ methods of ensuring that your website appears in the general rankings, they also need to make sure that you show up in ‘Google Places’. It may be worth asking potential UK SEO company how they deal with this relatively new development; those who have never even heard of it, are obviously best avoided!
Note: Keep in mind that although numbered, these resources are in no way a hierarchy. The information in them is often similar, though some are more exhaustive than others. I recommend reading as many of them as you can, to get an overall sense of how SEO is discussed, understood and practiced.
Another one of the benefits of SEM is that people who see your PPC ads are those most likely to want to buy your product or service. PPC ads require you to choose a geographic location and specific search queries to target. As a result, you can be sure that anyone who clicks on your ad is not arbitrarily surfing the web, but rather, is looking for your product or service and in a position to do so.

Choosing the best mobile app development services is just half the battle. The other half involves developing a solid foundation for your mobile app and the goal you wish to achieve in developing it. Identifying both should provide you a more strategic approach with your mobile app in line with meeting your online goals.
14. Ask the right people to link to you. Check the page rank of as many Websites you can find in your industry and start by asking the ones with the highest rank. Link to them first on your Resources page and then email them and ask for a link back. Send them the keyword-rich link text you would like them to use for your Website. Join the Better Business Bureau and your local Chamber of Commerce also — they usually link to you automatically and this helps in local searches. Check to see who is linking to you by using Yahoo Site Explorer. All of this sounds labor intensive but it’s worth a year of your time if it helps you get the No. 1 spot.
It is a great post about free SEO tools. The best thing is that most of the tools are free. I hope your list will be more helpful for those viewer who are searching for a keyword research tool. I know that you are good keyword researcher. You know very well that choosing best keyword is very important for any kind of blogger. Google’s standard search ad is composed of four visible and one hidden field. The visible fields are the headline (25 characters maximum), the first description line (35 characters maximum), the second description line (35 characters maximum) and the display URL (35 characters maximum). Bing has the same structure but with one only description line of 71 characters. The display URL needs to include the root domain of your site, which is what comes after the www. All the way until the .com/ (or .org/, ./edu etc…). Anything after the “ / “ can be customized and doesn’t need to correspond to an actual page on the site.
First thing I thought was… If there are certain SEO tips we must apply on 2017, why don’t all experts coincide in the answers? Is this SEO world still debatable in 2017? still relative as hell? Having said that, I think ‘Sean SI’ and ‘Dan Shure’ were the only ones who actually stepped out of the clichés and actually tried to teach us something on how to do things in 2017. Theory is valid, but practice and how to do things are useful. Sean Si and Dan Shure are very generous to have explained what they do to optimize your own research and analysis. These are the kind of things I’m looking for, as a user, when searching for best SEO practices in 2017. Because after reading the whole article, one asks himself? So what’s the conclusion ? It seems Everything is still important then: Social Networks, ON page optimization, guest-blogging, backlinks, internal linking, User experience, mobile friendliness, etc, etc, so what to do in 2017? Teh same as always, attack everything you can, don’t focus on anything in particular !
An added benefit of this SEO tool is that it works on any device, including tablets, computers and phones. This can be especially helpful if you are frequently away from your desk and don’t always have time to view reports on your computer.
30. Wordtracker Academy – Though well enough organized, Wordtracker’s Academy is not the most complete course you could take. However, it gives you an idea of the important topics on learning about SEO. It’s got separate categories dealing with keyword research or link building, PPC, and content writing. It has an apt category on social media marketing which looks at all social media platforms separately and underlines their importance, as well as how to integrate them into your marketing campaign – this however might be better suited later on in your education.
I find Citation and Trust Flow to be excellent metrics that I often refer to. Also, Majestic is the only one that gives me access to all 3 potential versions of a domain in one report so I can quickly/easily see if there’s a difference between site.com and www.site.com
I think I am going to focus on technique number 8 seo juice to your inner pages.Because (your another technique :)) many of my articles are sitting on the page 2 and 3. Thank you so much for these techniques.
HubSpot recently launched a new tool, called Content Strategy. It helps marketers identify and create clusters of web pages and blog content around each of their core topics, with the goal of achieving better search rankings and more and higher quality traffic. The tool helps companies avoid wasting time creating content that doesn’t work so they can focus on creating content that customers want to read—and search engines want to rank. Other tools, such as SEMrush, can also help you build this strategy.
” SEO PowerSuite allows us to get pretty killer results in some really short time spans. We’re massive fans of the software, and our team uses it daily to achieve and maintain our client rankings at the top of page 1 of Google. ”
111. Google AdWords Keyword Planner – Let’s get you started with the keyword research basics. If you’ll be optimizing for Google’s search engine, this should be one of your most important for finding keyword ideas and getting a sense of how competitive they are.
The challenge however is having customer engagement. As an agency, suprisingly sometimes the client isn’t always as engaged or responsive when it comes to these areas for us. That creates issues when trying to find targeted areas in their industry as they know it a lot better than we can.
For example, a link from a normal blog does not have the same ‘weight’ as a link from New York Times or a link from Matt Cutts blog (former head of Google Quality team) is not the same as a link from my blog.
Optimization techniques are highly tuned to the dominant search engines in the target market. The search engines’ market shares vary from market to market, as does competition. In 2003, Danny Sullivan stated that Google represented about 75% of all searches.[59] In markets outside the United States, Google’s share is often larger, and Google remains the dominant search engine worldwide as of 2007.[60] As of 2006, Google had an 85–90% market share in Germany.[61] While there were hundreds of SEO firms in the US at that time, there were only about five in Germany.[61] As of June 2008, the marketshare of Google in the UK was close to 90% according to Hitwise.[62] That market share is achieved in a number of countries.
Auditing your website is a smart first step for any SEO campaign, as it helps you identify problems and opportunities for growth. SEO is constantly in flux. Keywords and volumes change, and, often, so do search engine algorithms. Site Auditor helps you stay on top of your site’s SEO by allowing you to create an analysis schedule. You can set up this SEO tool to analyze your site weekly or monthly and specify what issues you don’t want notifications about in these scheduled evaluations. After you set up the schedule, you can stop worrying about the site, and you don’t have to continuously check on the audit results. Site Audit sends you an alert whenever it finds new issues or places where you can improve the site or webpage.
A website without content is, well, no website. A website with poor quality content is like a blunt knife – it might do the job but you must exert more force. A website with stale content is dead both to search engines and human visitors. This I understand firsthand because, severally, I went long periods without posting on my own blog. The results? Lower user engagement and lost SEO rankings.
We kind of foresaw this in our beginning of the year experiment on short content and saw confirmation of it throughout the year on all 3 big sites we worked on. We reduced the word counts from 2000+ to 800 – 1000 words, we doubled the publishing frequency and broke down topics between several pages and saw organic growth almost 2x. To cope with the new publishing frequency we also refined our content outsourcing processes and skills
A sitemap is a list of all posts/pages of your website.  You need 2 types of sitemaps. First an xml sitemap to submit to Google, Bing and other search engines and second an html sitemap to help visitors find your content easier.

Lastly, I would use SEMRush for competitive analysis. This tool reveals a wealth of information that provides actionable insights. I’ll have admit that I don’t use this tool enough. But when I do, I am beyond grateful for its robust capabilities.
Black hat SEO attempts to improve rankings in ways that are disapproved of by the search engines, or involve deception. One black hat technique uses text that is hidden, either as text colored similar to the background, in an invisible div, or positioned off screen. Another method gives a different page depending on whether the page is being requested by a human visitor or a search engine, a technique known as cloaking. Another category sometimes used is grey hat SEO. This is in between black hat and white hat approaches, where the methods employed avoid the site being penalized, but do not act in producing the best content for users. Grey hat SEO is entirely focused on improving search engine rankings.
Example I am website 1, then I performed dead links and contacted website 2 to recreate the broken webpage, how can I rank my website? I am sorry if it doesn’t make sense but I want to understand fully how it works 🙂
Yes, you can use this extension for your own site. But in experience this tool is even better for competitor analysis because it shows you the site’s Facebook and Twitter pages, what technology they’re using on their site, and traffic estimates…all from within your browser.
I’m far from the most sophisticated SEO strategist in the world but it all starts with the content, and that’s where WordPress comes in. For each article I write, I aim to create the most helpful piece of content on the subject, because I know that’s ultimately what Google wants at the top of their search results.
Second, I’d go for SEMrush, which in addition to being a good competitive intelligence tool, has a really powerful site audit tool. It’s a less-known part of their offering, but works great in combination with Screaming Frog to tackle on-site SEO issues.
As a rule of thumb, you should add the nofollow tag on all your external links (within your pages) that go to websites you cannot trust 100%, to ALL your comment links, to ALL your blogroll links and to ALL banner ad links.
If you want to promote your website by purchasing sponsored links, always use the rel nofollow attribute. There’s no other way. If Google finds that you’ve paid webmasters to build backlinks, you will end up with a hard to remove penalty. Here’s Matt Cutts take on advertorials.

Imagine reading a newspaper that didn’t have headlines. You would have to read half of the article before you knew what it was about. Adding headers and sub-headers is like adding headlines to a newspaper. It gives context to your content before a user dives into it and it also helps organize all of the information. A common best practice is to work the keyword into the H1 header.

If you don’t have the resources to create something like that, small improvements to the format is sometimes all it takes. We wrote a guide to Snapchat marketing where all we did was add a clickable table of contents. That caused our average time on page to skyrocket and bounce rate to plummet, and only took about 5 minutes to add.
But still it seems like there is something obvious missing, and most of the seo experts i try to hire will for at least a thousand of dollars (which fries my brain). The website is up for over 3 months and i’m getting like 1 visitor from search engines each day( GOD!). Is it normal for a new website to draw such low traffic from search engines? do i have to do off-page seo too or am i really missing something?
I managed a number of WordPress sites for a couple of years now and I would never know that I am making big mistakes in SEO. I had many sites with sub-domain, I am thinking of adding categories before but I decided to use sub-domain instead. I never thought that it has a big impact in sharing link love. In addition, you can revise, change the title, meta description, etc of an old content to make it fresh and re-publish it.
6. Build a great web site. I’m sure you want to show up on the first page of results. Ask yourself, “Is my site really one of the 10 best sites in the world on this topic?” Be honest. If it’s not, make it better.
Also you should make sure that if you operate a site without the www. prefix, someone who types in www.example.com will still be redirected to your site. If this isn’t happening, Google may assume these are two different sites and your visibility could be compromised.

However, when I’m looking to find some keywords to sprinkle into my posts (I never start with keywords I write posts for my readers first then look to see if there’s relevant keywords that can be slotted in) I just use the Google Keyword Planner Tool to find decent search volume keywords.
We concentrated on the keyword-based aspect of all the SEO tools that included the capabilities, because that’s where most business users will primarily focus. Monitoring particular keywords and your existing URL positions in search rankings is important but, once you’ve set that up, it’s largely an automated process. Automated position-monitoring features are a given in most SEO platforms and most will alert you to issues, but they don’t actively improve your search position. Though, in the best position monitoring and rank tracking tools such as AWR Cloud, Moz Pro, and Searchmetrics, position monitoring can become a proactive process that feeds back into your SEO strategy. It can spur further keyword reseach and targeted site and competitor domain crawling.
I first heard you talk about your techniques in Pat Flynn’s podcast. Must admit, I’ve been lurking a little ever since…not sure if I wanted to jump into these exercises or just dance around the edges. Thank you!! Talk about positioning yourself as THE expert! Deep bow.

Remember, we only show organic traffic; a website/web page may have more traffic from other sources (e.g. referral traffic, PPC, etc). We also tend to underestimate organic traffic, so this should only be used as a rough estimate.
